Letters of Love #4 —ToMi

Hey Tomi,
At this point, I know you’re probably a little tired of these. I know. Too much of something, we’ve been told, can be sometimes off-putting. I also know that sometimes it’s much easier to think we are not worthy of the adulation we get. I feel this way sometimes. I find myself secretly questioning if I deserve it at all. So, I guess this letter is going to be shorter and serve as just a little reminder from me to you about your worth.
You deserve every good thing your heart desires, Tomi. Life is hard enough and sometimes even those you hope would be there for you might not be. Sometimes you find that all you have is just you, your fears, and in this instance, my letters of loving adulation. These letters are not meant to do anything special. I don’t expect that you read this and somehow it stops your shitty day from being less shitty. I am not that naive.
But I do know that these letters are for the future. For that moment to come when it might feel as though you are alone and the blows of life are hitting much harder than you can deflect or parry the punches. These letters, I hope, would be a way for you to remember that you are not your circumstance. You are not your hardship. You are not your fears even though sometimes they can define you. You are something more —you are you. Perfect in your own imperfections and worries.
The world is at your feet. You deserve the best. Your tears are not your weakness, they show your strength. Your worries are not your shortcomings, they reveal your empathy. You are deserving of kindness to yourself. You are deserving of happiness that does not come with untenable conditions. You deserve peace of mind. And I hope you find it daily in your life.
You are not your fears even though sometimes they can define you. You are something more —you are you. Perfect in your own imperfections and worries.
I hope whomever your future lover (also reading this, I hope) might be, remembers that the most valuable thing they could ever give to you is peace —well, that and an all-expense paid trip to Santorini or some other exotic places.
I’ll stop here, for now, my love. The countdown continues, Tomi. Your birthday is just a few days away now. I can’t believe you’ll be turning 25 soon (wink wink).
Until the next one,
Cheers!!
