On: The Most Amazing Woman on Planet Earth
This article is best enjoyed whilst listening to the song “Save Me” by Noah Kahan - https://youtu.be/p0r2eErw7nE
You can tell you truly love someone when they are able to make the little you do for them seem like the whole world. Yet, giving them the whole world, for you, would always seem too little. Silver and gold I have none, just 4K in my GTB account at the moment. But what I do have are words. So, it’s with these words that I hope I can convey how much it warms my heart to celebrate the most amazing and the most gorgeous woman on planet earth —Tomi!
Today is her day! A day that symbolizes her introduction to this existential mess that is life. And as messy as it has been, she’s the one woman I know who has somehow managed to weave her way through the seemingly never-ending trials and tribulations with her skin still skinning. She has found a way to be kindhearted to those who were in many occasions, terrible to her. She’s the kind of woman that would never hold a grudge because she was too busy finding ways to buy herself a Dodge (well, Tesla…but Dodge rhymed with Grudge, so I went with that 😔).
I could write about a thousand ways in which having her in my life has changed me but those words would be littered in flowery half-truths. Tomi hasn’t changed me in a thousand ways. She has changed me in one: she stayed. Ever since meeting her and falling in love with her and then loving her, one constant in our relationship has been the fact that I always knew she was there. She stayed through my darkest days (even as they persist). She’s been there in happier times too. And with each passing moment, she continues to make sure, by her actions, that I always know she’s going to remain.
Nevertheless, as I type this, I realize that in some ways, her ability to be that pillar her friends can count on is in itself is a special gift that she alone possesses. When you get close enough to her to be called her friend, her sense of loyalty tends to rub off on you. You find that in her presence you are pulled towards wanting to mimic her kindness and her sense of empathy and also her grind for wanting nothing but the best for herself. She’s the kind of person to encourage your passions without needing to understand them, and still call you out on your bullshit without needing to rub it in.
I know she actually believes that she has only one child, Daniel. But the truth that she might not know is that we are all Daniel’s siblings by proxy because in some way, shape or form, she’s been a mother to each and every one of us. And it’s amazing to think that for a woman that has been such a beacon of love and support to all those she cares about for the longest time, she’s only now just hitting the 30+ milestone.
And knowing how uncertain and somewhat scary this particular age can be, I would love to use this opportunity to let her know a couple of things:
You have nothing to fear, Tomi. You’re not only going to keep aging with grace but certainly going to keep excelling while you do this!
If there ever comes a time when you feels like you can’t push yourself forward —weighed down by the burdens of others— I want you to know that those of us who are your children by proxy, would be more than happy to be there for you.
On this note and on this very special day, I want to wish Tomi (my one true love) a very happy birthday celebration. May your days be filled with happiness, joy, good health and an unlimited supply of peace and support when you need it!
Live long and prosper, mi amore!
Cheers!
